The 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP23) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) concluded with a landmark decision recognizing the role of agriculture in tackling climate change, known as the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA). It requests the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) to jointly address issues related to agriculture.
FAO produced this review in order to provide its member countries and other stakeholders with relevant background and knowledge related to the KJWA. This document introduces the KJWA decision and further developments resulting from the 48th sessions of the subsidiary bodies, provides a brief overview of the UNFCCC, and describes how the Convention addresses agriculture.
